Thunderstorms over Sherburne County, Wed. May 26, 2004

I followed a couple cells moving over central Sherburne County after work. As I was driving home to Elk River from Becker on Hwy 10 I noticed a lowering of the cloud formation on the storm that was moving into Becker. I drove back to Becker and traveled North on Cnty Rd 11 and then East on Cnty Rd 4 where I took the first 4 images below.

On my way to a 7:00PM meeting I heard k0mpx calling for any spotters that could checkout possible rotation in a cell that was moving from Clear Water into the Becker area again. I skipped out on the first 1/2 hour or so of my meeting to watch this second cell. The last 2 images are of this cell. Again, Sherburne County dispatch had a couple calls from the public reporting a tornado in the area from this cell. Most likely they were seeing scud clouds that were moving rapidly up and into this thunderstorm. I believe that this was the cell that later moved over North Branch and Taylors Falls area and that spotters reported seeing funnels in.

First cell over Becker area about 5:45PM

Looking at rotation moving East of Becker. Wind above 20 MPH here at my back while looking into the storm

Cell has moved into Isanti County. Public has called Sherburne County reporting a tornado in this area

About 6:20PM, this first cell is now East of Zimmerman

Second cell over Becker area about 7:20PM

I could see banding in this formation with slow rotation and inflow coming in at the pointer
